On Monday 30thNovember 9 students attended the 3rd Better City Forum in Drift cafe.
The first half of the meeting was taken up with a discussion about rubbish and recycling in Liverpool, and two members of Liverpool City Council staff attended to listen to students feedback. Issues discussed included food waste bins at Atlantic Point, recycling at Marybone (new recycling bins are on their way), glass recycling at Barkhill Court and the system in place at Opal Court.
There was also some discussion around plans to increase recycling provision in the city centre, and fly tipping of supermarket trolleys in Smithdown.
After a short break for Christmas subway and mulled wine the meeting moved on to another set of elections.
There were no candidates for the position of Home Students Delegate. If you would like to stand for this position please contact s.l.hinchley@ljmu.ac.uk
There were two candidates for the Better City representative on Elections Committee, Will Walters and Duncan Claxon. Duncan Claxon was elected.
Students were advised that the issues raised previously were still being dealt with but that there was little progress to report. Recycling and Rubbish had already been discussed and Housing would be discussed later in the forum.
Students were asked if there were any new issues they wanted to raise. Concerns about drug use in Barkhill Court and Bugs in Marybone were raised. Feedback will be given on these in the next meeting.
Students were then asked for their views on LSUs updated Vision and Values. If you would like to see these and give us your opinon please contact s.l.hinchley@ljmu.ac.uk
Finally students discussed when the next Housing relaunch should be, and how we can challenge the myth that students must rush for houses. Students felt that this should not be too late or students might miss the messages until they had already looked for a house, but that some sort of "not yet" campaign should run after christmas. What do you think??? Please contact lsuvpc@ljmu.ac.uk with your views!
